Sovereign Soil

On September 11th, 2012, America paused to remember the victims of the worst terrorist attack in our history. While we paused and remembered, we told stories of where we were when it happened, how it changed our lives, and all the things one would typically do when remembering a tragic day, half way around the world Egypt and Libya were incensed by a video that made fun of Mohamed, formed obligatory angry mobs, and just went nuts. Most Americas had no clue that this video even existed, nor do they really know (or care) about who Mohamed is or why he was so important.

I want you to go actually watch the video. It was made by a bunch of Coptic Christians who fled Egypt in terror, and it poked at the Muslim behavior towards… well, everyone. It’s poorly written, cheaply made, and most people would have simply laughed at its B movie-level of badness. In ages past, some cleric would have condemned this, Americans would have sheepishly responded that we have freedom of expression but, yes, this was in poor taste and everyone would have moved on. Instead, they did exactly what the film depicts in its opening scene. They formed a mob and went nuts. Did I mention that, in the process, they actually COMMITTED AN ACT OF WAR?

Every Nation in the world recognizes every embassy as sovereign soil of the nation that is being represented. Any breech for any reason – short of full on national emergencies (e.g. Nuclear weapons) – is a serious diplomatic incident and is considered an invasion of foreign soil. Even the Nazis – callous, cold, and, belligerent asshats that they were – respected the sanctity of embassies. It is galling to think that for over thirty years the US has supported Egypt, given untold billions in aid, and this is the repayment. Not only did the police do absolutely dick all to control the situation or defend the embassy, they were nowhere to be seen. As if simply getting over the wall and gratifying the shit out of the inside weren’t bad enough, the sad sacks of excrement actually tore down the Stars and Stripes, ripped it apart, and replaced it with a Jihadi flag. It is a wonder the Marines stationed there didn’t go Full Metal Jacket on them.

This is to say absolutely NOTHING of Libyans actually killing an American ambassador and dragging his body through the streets like the Somalis did with Mike Durrant’s crew. It is hard not to want to get all fire and brimstone on these douchebags. Ask any American about the Libyan situation yesterday and they would have told you that they would love to do anything to help them, and we were actively ready, willing, and able to give tons of assistance during their transition period. Anything from advice to trade, to actual money. That these two attacks happened almost together cannot really fail to escape notice. Nor does it escape notice that this happened on September 11th.

It doesn’t seem to matter what we do anymore, America is always to blame. When a Dutch cartoon came out about Mohamed, whose flag was getting burned right alongside the Dutch one? What’s worse is this offense is all one way. We’re not supposed to be pissed at all when the Palestinians where cheering in the streets on 9/11. We’re not supposed to actually wonder if mainstream Islam is becoming a threat. We’re not supposed to get pissed when they murder Christians or burn down churches. We’re not supposed to be pissed when Afghanistan actually sentences a man to death for converting to Christianity. The West walks around on eggshells in mortal terror of offending Muslims, yet when al Jazeera gleefully shows insurgent attacks on Americans, or we have proof Iranians are killing American Soldiers and Marines, we’re supposed to just take it?

I have no doubt that we’ll bend over and take this one up the rear as we have so many other insults. No doubt people are working to cool the Egyptians’ and Libyans’ ruffled feathers, when in reality they should be working to cool ours. And therein lies the problem – no one respects us anymore. During the Roman Empire, a Citizen had only to say “Citizen Romana” when traveling abroad, and he or she would be unaccounted, because if even one citizen was harassed abroad, Rome would send the full might of the Legions to exact retribution on whichever country offered the abuse. I’m not saying go to war with Egypt or Libya, but there have to be clear, obvious, and more importantly painful consequences for ever doing something like this.

Enough is enough. America has a long history of trying to be reasonable in the face of abuse, but when the long train of abuses becomes too much, we have not only a right but a duty to act. We are the guards of an idea and an ideal that transcends the narrow and petty mobs of the world. We are a reasoned and reasonable people, but we have proven time and again that we are also not a people to be trifled with. I’m tired of the leadership in these countries raising their hands as if to say “insh’Allah.” Egypt and Libya need to take responsibility for their own damn people and we need to stop being so understanding of this sort of behavior.

I say find out what causes people to shit themselves, and the next time the American flag is burned, make the whole crowd lose bowel control. Most of all, I say, never let this shit happen again. The next time an angry mob – be it Muslim or otherwise – get it in their head to come knocking on our embassy, I say we use those extremely painful, nonlethal methods we developed for use in Iraq. I would love to see a whole crowd on the ground twitching and writhing in pain and a US Marine standing over them saying “Son, you done fucked up!”

   I just wanted to correct a misconception in your post. Embassies are not the sovereign soil of the nation being represented.

   Contrary to popular belief, diplomatic missions do not enjoy full extraterritorial status and are not sovereign territory of the represented state.

   Rather, the premises of diplomatic missions remain under the jurisdiction of the host state while being afforded special privileges (such as immunity from most local laws) by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Diplomats themselves still retain full diplomatic immunity, and (as an adherent to the Vienna Convention) the host country may not enter the premises of the mission without permission of the represented country. The term “extraterritoriality,” therefore, is often used in this broader sense when applied to diplomatic missions.

   As the host country may not enter the representing country’s embassy without permission, embassies are sometimes used by refugees escaping from either the host country or a third country.

   This article hits the nail on the head! It’s an aboslute disgrace to the memories of those who died on 9/11, as well as those who continue to serve and defend our freedom! I think we should withdraw all American personnel in those countries, and commence bombing runs. Maybe that will get the point across.

   Well said, sir. I too am sick of my country (Australia) bending over backwards to accomodate a religion which does nothing to moderate the 4th century inbreds who are intent on a world-wide caliphate.

   And as to the comments of that narcissistic egomaniac Assange (“By the US accepting the UK siege on the Ecuadorian embassy in London it gave tacit approval for attacks on embassies around the world”) – this just shows how much the ‘tard thinks the world revolves around him. I do like that even supporters of his called him out on it (Jemima Khan “That last tweet manages to be both absurd and shockingly offensive.”) Being the asshat that he is, he then posted “We have deleted and rephrased a previous tweet with the word “tacit” in it, since the word is rare and was being misinterpreted.” Not at all condescending, nor showing any basic humanity. Four people were killed and he thinks it is about him?

   The consulate / embassy isn’t technically soverign soil, but killing our ambassador is a declaration of war. They want to go to war over a youtube video??

   This guy worked a lifetime tirelessly trying to promote Lybian freedom, education for the poor, and food aid to the masses. They muder him and drag his body thru the street – just plain ungrateful. Animals know better. All this over some movie that nobody knew about? Do that shit on 9/11 as well??

   The 1.5 Billion muslims just got trolled by a con-man racist. He said they’re animals that riot and kill. They proved him right. Most fifth graders know how to stand up to insults. Hell, my in-laws are Marines and I’m Navy. Effing grow a pair and deal with it like grown ups. Screwing with America is the express train to pain.

   Our goverment needs to de-fund Lybia, Egypt, and Pakistan… THEN get our personell out of those countries where the local police stand by, while mobs to riot and burn our shit to the ground.

    I say the hell with it. The muslims and islamists want a war, a jihad, let’s give it to them. This has been boiling over for hundreds if not thousands of years.
    Sometimes, a thing just doesn’t belong in a place you put it…it just doesn’t fit or isn’t right.
    That thing is islam and muslims who follow it. They are a scourge on the planet. They are the square peg trying to fit into the round whole that is the world.
    They are always rioting, always killing, always beheading someone. This thing, “islam”, is not a “religion”, it is a cult of hatred, practiced 5 times daily, by people who pray to, and follow, a known pedophile and child rapist, muhammad (who took a 9 year old girl for a wife for those who don’t know and that muslims choose to ignore). The main goal of their “religion” is to spread across the planet making others accept their belief of hatred and their twisted shariah law. They force governments into changing their laws to accept shriah law. Islam, as a belief, doesn’t work unless all infidels and “non-believers” are left on the side of the road with their heads off.
    Would you think for one minute, if the anti-American sentiment spreads to the U.S. (which apparently it has…a suspect who claims ties to Al-Qaeda, called in a bomb threat to the University of Texas), do you think “Arab-Americans” would side with us???? Hell no, they would attack from within. Their “religion” tells them so.
    These are a race of people who shout “Allahu Akhbar”, (god is great), everytime a bomb goes off, or a person is killed. Try to find a video of an actual beheading…and watch in amazement as they take orgasmic pleasure shouting “Allahu Akhbar” repeatedly as the act is carried out.
    And please, stop with the statement, “but these are just radical islamists”. Try telling that BS to someone who cares. This is islam and the muslim culture that perpetrates this. Have you ever once heard a so called “non-radical islamist” ever once decry or condemn any attack that has ever occurred against the U.S. by muslims????
    These are people who will drag a 16 year old girl out of her house and stone her to death for being raped and sullying the family name or god forbid…have sex with a boy of another religion. “Honor killings”, I could spend an hour just writing about that.
    This is a race of barbaric creatures and the time has come to stop coddling them and kowtowing to them. It is obvious…you hate us!….well…you know what? WE HATE YOU TOO!
    You want your armageddon, your jihad against “The Great Satan”? Bring it on, myself and others will happily rub our ammunition in pork chops and pigs blood.
