Marine Professor Punch

The above image has passed around emails, Facebook, and Twitter for probably close to a decade in one form or another, and likely for longer than even that.

I feel the need to blog about it for multiple reasons, the most glaring is that it is obviously 100% bullshit. If you repost shit like this, I almost universally would love to punch you in the throat. It takes five fucking seconds to check shit out on Google to see if it’s real, don’t be a fucking retard.

Anyway, on towards my true beef. The message that this shit sends is about as anti-American as a person can get. People tend to see the buzz words and just assume it is meant to be a patriotic flag-waving which is exactly what this is not.

There are a couple of significant buzz words: (not counting Marine, Iraq and Afghanistan) atheist and ACLU.

These two terms are meant to grab you and separate you. They are used in a way to say that being a patriot and supporting the military means that you must be against atheists and the ACLU.

First, the second buzz word: the ACLU. I agree with you, they are douchebags of the highest order, however, they in their own way are looking out for American’s best interest. Past that I can’t defend them without puking a little in my mouth. (I admit my bias here).

Atheist is the first buzz word mentioned. It is meant to grab you in the same way. Many of us were raised to believe that Russia was full of “godless commies” and this is no different. Here is where I will ask you to think for a second. What is wrong with this statement?

What is wrong is that it is saying that theism is right, atheism is wrong – period. It leaves you no other choice. It gives you the classic “you are with us, or against us” problem. When you add all world religions together, regardless of their disagreements, they outnumber nonbelievers. The term is used very intentionally to grab the largest number of people.

The next few paragraphs reemphasize the previous statement of grouping believers of “something” against all others. During this reemphasization, it forces patriotism in to the mix making theists and patriots make a choice. They are either with the believer Marine who fought for their freedom, or against the evil, non believing professor. The choice is barely there because 90% of people don’t even see a choice given to them. It is worded in such a way that disagreement is bad in the absolute worst way.

I however, am here to give you that choice.

Think again for a second, what you are agreeing with. You are saying that America is for assault and battery on people who believe different than you.

Again, it is saying: America is FOR assault and battery on people who believe different than you.

I ask you, how different does that sound from the dogma spewed to suicide bombers before they blow up in a crowd of civilians? Seriously, what is the difference? The only difference is death. You don’t want a suicide bomber coming up to you and blowing up, but would you accept them coming up to you and knocking you out? Because that is what you are agreeing to with the above propaganda.

The end part is just as ludicrous. If you think God exists and he is busy protecting troops fighting the good fight, why are there thousands of new graves in Arlington cemetery? Why are there tens and tens of thousands of new amputees from the wars? Heck, why did “God” make all these theists kill other theists (and atheists) in the first place?

It’s just blatantly patronizing to the masses and I, as an honest asshole, am officially calling you people on it. I don’t care if you are deeply religious and/or deeply patriotic, punching a man because he believes differently than you is putting yourself on the same fucking level as the savages in the Middle East who are killing these same Marines you claim to love.

I am not proposing you must be tolerant of all belief systems, but violence because of someone not believing the same as you do is exactly what is getting the aforementioned Marines and Soldiers killed and I ask that you pull your head out of your ass and at least pretend you can think for yourself.

Outstanding post. Thanks for saying it. I’m going to send this article to every single one of “those” relatives who forwards these chain-mails to me.

Now, I’m off to boycott a Starbucks because they don’t support the troops. The internet told me so.

Next you’re going to tell me that our troops aren’t really training foreign military personnel for the purpose of rounding us all up into death camps…

But seriously, great post. It is an insult to the intelligence of several philosophical ideals, not least of which the principles of our Nation’s laws and then Christianity as a whole.

    Well done, SGT Awesome.

Sgt Awesome, not sure how you came up with your handle, but it sure isn’t based on your knowledge of the facts.

There are so many untruths in your commentary it would take too long to correct, but I will fix a couple of your lies just on principle.

    1) The ACLU is looking out for America’s rights ? Did you actually write that ? The ACLU serves its own self interests and is directly responsible for the erosion of American rights to a great degree for alot of years. They are the biggest bully on the street and their most often used tactic is to threaten to sue with their deep liberal pockets, any church, township, school or individual they can get their teeth into, to hide God from our society and to subdue individual freedom. You don’t even need 5 seconds to check it, just keep your eyes open and pay attention to current events.

    2) America is for assault and battery on people who believe different than us ? Although we’ve certainly had some sick puppies in American politics that try to misuse our military, no real American including our military wants to go to war to convince people we are right about something. We go to war when we are attacked or as an invitation to save another country that is being brutalized by some dicatator or power hungry scumbag. Get your facts straight.

    3) You’re trying to make an argument that punching this professor in the story that nobody really believes happened except you, is the same as blowing up a suicide vest, but your first real ‘honest asshole’ comment was how you’d like to punch somebody in the throat because they didn’t take 5 seconds to confirm a story on google.

I have no idea why Ranger Up allows you to comment on this site, but you are messed up on alot of levels and should change your handle to something more appropriate like Ass Buried Head.

      Rick,

Read the post again, and then rewrite (or delete) your second point. If you are going to criticize others for not having their facts straight, then it would be a wise move to do the same on your part.

SGT Awesome clearly stated in the post that the email in question is “FOR assault and battery on people who believe different than you,” not that America is. Point of fact, that’s one of the complaints of the author of this article.

I see Rick has his panties twisted up in a bunch. Perhaps a lesson in reading comprehension is in order here.

      1) Yes, that’s exactly what he wrote, just after writing “I agree with you, they are douchebags of the highest order…”. Listen Rick, just because you don’t agree with something/someone doesn’t make them wrong or bad or stupid. Which, ironically, is the point of this story.

      2) Reading comprehension fail. I’ll leave it at that.

      3) Yes, that is half of his argument. It’s just like he said: “the only difference is death.” The similarities of people doing violence unto others based on different beliefs is very real. And as (I’m assuming you are) a Christian, you should be wholeheartedly against that. How does that whole turning the other cheek thing go? The other half of his argument is that people blindly agree with things they read based on key words or phrases without thinking through what they just read. As you’ve appeared to have done yourself.

So maybe instead of the petty insults and name calling, you could just relax, take a breath, and realize that not everyone agrees with your points of view. And you know what? That’s okay dude.

Regardless if the post is fictional or not a i agree 100% with what the Marine did. It is the land of the free and if the Marine was offended by what this arrogant professor then more power to him to knock him on his ass. And maybe it was God working through him that did it. He did ask him to anyways.

Just because this is the land of the free doesn’t mean you are allowed to assault someone because you don’t agree with them. Where the fuck is your logic?

You pretty much missed the whole point of the story, which I agree is total fiction. It highlights the arrogance of the leftist educational system. The professor is a leftist, who holds his class as a “captive audience”, arrogantly expressing his disdain for traditional American values. The Marine is an All-American, God-fearing warrior who defends those values. Both are obvious stereotypes, but the this little bit of fiction represents the frustration many of us feel as our values, those traditional values which built this nation, are attacked by modern society, in particular the “higher” education system currently in place.

The whole reason that we (America) is in the state that it is, is that we allow these liberal pieces of garbage to indoctrinate our children. Now, don’t say anything bad about our leftist leaders, you will be a hate criminal. Oh, and I have officially lost respect for some on here who write for RU. Your absolute adherence to the politically correct in the face of well spoken debate (to the point that you insinuate that anyone that disagrees with you is a child/retard/etc) is complete anathema to us that actually believe in what the United States of America was supposed to be.

So, at what point does a God-fearing American Marine (which, by the way, I am one), decide that enough is enough and take a stand for his Faith?
I swore an oath (like we all did, maybe you need a reminder: It started “I, [state your name], do solomnly swear…” and ends “so help me God.”) to support and defend that very instrument that gurentees (not grants, but gurentees what is already there) the right for anyone to worship as they see fit, to believe as they wish to believe…
As of late, that 1% of assholes who claim to be Christian have given our enemies fuel for their screeds because they can’t fathom that there might exist a higher power, or at least a set of expected standards that some of us dare to hold ourselves.
I’m not perfect by any means, but the time is coming to take a stand, and if it is a choice to roll over in the names of “Political Correctness” and meekly submit to some watered down version of my faith for fear of offending somebody else, or stand the line for what I believe, then give me the white surcoat with the Red Cross, because I am willing to accept that others have their own beliefs, but I have mine as well, and this I will defend. If that means that some professor who is using his station to forward his personal agenda needs to get his bells rung, so be it. Deus vult, Semper Fidelis.

Also missed in the “analysis” is the latent desire to punch someone in the f*cking mouth for being an a**hole. This is why this story is pogeybait. Because most folks would show decorum and follow the general social contract by: a) not hijacking a captive audience; b) not using a position of influence/leadership to further a narrow focus agenda; and c) not taking class time away from folks who paid $$ to listen to that crap (unless it was some existentional philosophic bs get in touch with your inner self pre-req we need to make it a requirement otherwise these f*ckwads would be out of work class). So for item “c” alone, BZ becuase the prof. was wasting class time and students’ money.

When the “righties” start using the tactics of the “lefties”, the “lefties” are going to sh!t themselves. Bring lots of wipes.

It has been said that the Madison Ave method of advertising and marketing is out-dated and going away. That is only true in the medium the product is released. Many intelligent, talented and skilled people work for those corporations. That is exactly what it is, corporate media. No doubt this was released to inspire emotion in people that will be measured, cataloged and analyzed. The objective is to sell a product (or idea) to as many people as possible by creating a rational collective need to compromise in principle. It is possible that this circulation was the end product however it should be known that when publishing an advertisement it is almost always developed within a campaign. Many products that cover many target audiences and have measurable points to change and modify the product as results are received and assessed. They thrive on emotions and uneducated “knee jerk” reactions. They do not release product based on that so it would seem wise to not “purchase” the product based on that.

We used to call these “sea stories”. Highly entertaining, dubious factual accuracy, but valuable for passing on wisdom to younger members of the tribe of misguided children. People over analyze stuff too often these days. The moral of this story: you have to stand up for what you believe, God won’t do it for you, and there won’t always be a Marine handy.

First, I apologize if where I was going is being confused. I attempted to do my best to hide my personal biases so as to put my point across without immediately causing another person to read it and react to it. I also tried to write it in such a way to explain that the original post is attempting to grab *your* personal bias and play it like a fiddle.

    Ok, Mr. Grover,

The ALCU is the one place I admit my bias. I think they are, what did I write… “douchebags of the highest order” so I am not sure why you think I am defending them at all. I did say that in THEIR view, they are doing what THEY think is best for America. I didn’t say I AGREED with them (as a matter of fact, I heavily implied that I didn’t). My point was that it was used as a hook to lure the reader in without them seeing the context of what was written.

I guess I must’ve been unclear. The article is meant to make you think that a Marine knocking someone out simply because of his belief system is good. I may not be a lawyer or constitutional scholar, but I’m pretty sure that America this is not.

I’m not sure how you think I am the only one who believes this story is real, when in my very first paragraph (I thought) I made clear my belief of it when I called it “100% absolute bullshit.” Again, I apologize if my terminology is ambiguous.

Lastly, I have no idea why RU lets me write for them either, I assume it involves that one night in the bathhouse that I am not allowed to ever talk about… I’ve said too much.

    Mr. Hill,

You are kind of who this article is targeted too. I attempted to point out the particular words that were being used against you to blind you to the facts of the story. You apparently were either unable to get past these words, or you honestly feel that American values are punching people who don’t believe what you believe. Other than the ACLU, where I admit my own bias (which agrees with you…) I tried to keep it as neutral as possible to point out the hypocrisy involved. I tried to point out that if your own personal religious values include assaulting those who don’t agree with you, how much different is it than those people who our Marines are currently overseas fighting?

    Mr. Wolfe,

Where did I contradict myself? I can’t always promise perfection, but I do my best and would love to clear up where I may have contradicted myself.

    SGT B,

“to support and defend that very instrument that gurentees[sic] (not grants, but gurentees[sic] what is already there) the right for anyone to worship as they see fit, to believe as they wish to believe…”

So you agree to defend the right of people to believe as they wish, but when someone doesn’t believe as YOU do, you want to assault them?

    Color me confused.

    Quickburn,

Have you attended college? I would be hard pressed to name a handful of professors who never “wasted” my time. My freshman English professor spent the entire semester espousing her feminist agenda and actually gave me an F for disagreeing with her. I never knocked her out. I retook the class the next semester (from another feminist, but not a militant one) and received an A. Did I choose the incorrect path? Should I have stood up for my rights and beat her up in the middle of class for wasting hundreds of my dollars?

    • Quickburn

      July 17, 2012 at 1:51 pm

No, I learned to read from Baloo (you know, Jungle Book)…and because you are emotionally distressed at this point, you missed the word “desire” in my first sentence. So your class fell under subpart “c” thanks for proving my point. Did you ask your feminist professor out? I mean after the “F”? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME, SGT. Awesome.

    Rick,

Your argument would be more affective if when, you said you would “correct his lies” that he had actually lied. Or maybe not use the word lies. Opinions, no matter how absurd, are truths to the person holding that opinion. This is not to say that I disagree with your assessment of the ACLU, I simply disagree with the way you went about the argument.

    Sgt. Awesome,

I believe the contradiction comes into play when you say you want to punch the people that post that stuff in the throat but go on to say that the marines violent approach towards the professor is wrong and anti American. That being said, I understand your argument and agree that the piece is propoganda, and your breakdown is spot on accurate. Unfortunately, most media, especially anything claiming to be news, is propoganda.

  22. SSGt Satterly

    July 17, 2012 at 5:15 pm

It’s a story. I laughed when I read it because it is funny. Oddly enough, I did not believe that a Marine, a soldier, or any other member of the military would do such a thing in that setting.

There is an apparent contradiction in pointing out that you want to “punch people in the throat” who post this as truth, and then condemn them for wanting to punch someone who disagrees with them.

I was Infantry, I am also a Roman Catholic Christian. There is no contradiction in that. The “turn the other cheek” argument is quickly reduced to the absurd, by asking if we should only be defended by those who don’t believe in any God?

I found Sgt Awesome’s analysis as entertaining as the original story, as well as the various comments created by Sgt Awesome’s post.

In the end, I am sure that’s what it was for, so Mission Accomplished.

By the way, America’s history is replete with people who punch others they don’t agree with. When it happens on a Geo-political scale, it’s called war. What watered down version of American history tells us that it is un-American to punch someone with which we disagree? We have been kicking the shit out of people with which we disagree since our inception. Our very Revolution came about because we didn’t agree with the British king to the point we wrote a document called the Declaration of Independence to list the reasons we disagreed with them, and swore to die defending our right to disagree.

Lighten up, disagree all you want, and punch whomever you want. Just don’t expect to do so without consequence, and since there is a “SGT” in front of your name, I am assuming that you agreed to kill people with which your country disagrees.

All of this over a funny story. Carry on.
