Join Ranger Up at the 2010 Bataan March

Okay, here’s the deal. Ranger Up is bringing a bunch of people out to do the Bataan Death March in New Mexico on 19-21 March. Check it out here.
Essentially it is a marathon over awful terrain. There is a heavy division and a light division. We have some people competing in the light division (meaning no rucksack) and we have four people (Nick, Tom, John Tackett from FighterLink, and Whitney) competing in Heavy Co-Ed. We expect to walk/run this event. We need one more to make a five-person Heavy team.
We want someone from the RUniverse to join us.
Why we’re doing it: Because it’s there and because we’re going to support the Rocky Boots/Warrior Legacy Campaign.
The uniform: Rucksack with 35 pounds, Ranger Panties (we’ll provide), t-shirt (we’ll provide).
How to compete:
Send us a very short essay in the comments area here or on facebook. When we read them, we are considering two things:
1) Will you be able to do it? We don’t need to win and we’re not super-amazing athletes, but we’re not gonna suck either. Take that into account.
2) Are you going to be fun to hang out with for a weekend or are you going to suck us into the misery vortex? We seriously just want to hang out with someone that is cool. It’s gonna suck and if you’re a douche, it’s gonna be a long 26.2 miles. If you’re not sure if you’re a douche, ask your friends. Also, if you’re generally not a douche, but get douchey when you are physically miserable, keep that in mind.
Requirements:
1) You’ve walked 12 miles or more at military standards (55 pounds, under 3 hours). You can do it this week, but you have to have done it by Monday the 8th.
2) You’re not a douche.
Huge Bonus Points:
1) You’ve served in the military or are/were a military spouse or dependent.
2) You’ve run a marathon.
3) You’ve competed in this before.
4) You can turn into pure energey and smite your enemies.
5) You have been the centerfold in either Maxim, Playboy, or Fight!*
*We’re kidding. This will not help you.**
**Yes, it will.
Please start posting ASAP, we’re making our decision Mon, the 8th!
Ranger Up fans will pick the top three, and we’ll finalize it from there!

Well dammit all to Hell! I was an RN in the Navy and the heaviest thing I ever carried was an M9 and a 9 pound baby! I have a plate on my femur due to a fracture from a 220 lb injured Marine I was trying to pull and he fell on me.
I just wanted to bitch and moan because I can’t go!! I think I need a medical waiver and you all should just take me because I’m a crazy bitch and I’m fun! I’ll be your cheerleader!!
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!
See???
And oh yeah. Gives me the chance to stalk Tommy. =D

I would write a great five page proposal essay on how you should pick me; however I will give you the A.D.D. versi…SQUIRREL!:
I am a 29 year old vet who has spent his whole military career living out of a rucksack. I enjoy sunsets in 100 degree weather, long walks through Trashcanistan poppy fields, and the romantic melodies of Slayer.
I humped up and down March or Die Ridge in Korea, turned my feet into hamburger in the mountains of Afghanistan, have shredded “Big Duke” in Kosovo, and carried the big green tick for 2 years throughout SFAS and the SF Pipeline.
Years of bloody feet, missing toenails, blown out boots, and crotch burn have taught me something: there is a fine line between toughness and stupidity…and I’m still trying to figure out which side I’m on.
So pick me, because if it’s gonna be that kind of party, I wanna stick my dick in the Tuna with Noodles.

Well guys, I’m a cadet at the New Mexico Military Institute. The ROTC department always fields a team and I saw that you guys needed a fifth member. I’d be down to go with you guys. I’ve done the Bataan Marathon a bunch of times, and only finished it once.

I know I will be able to do it. I may not be a super amazing athlete but I will not quit and I will not piss and moan. When I saw this was posted I went out to mountains and did a 15 mile ruck march in four hours and 18 minutes but I only had a 35 pound ruck. I’m not a douche. I’m only 18 years old. I’m not in the military yet. But I want to be after I graduate this year. I would like to follow in my fathers foot steps, except I would like to be an officer and become a Ranger. My father was in the Army for 20 years and he was killed in Iraq in 2006. I have never run a marathon before and I have not competed in this memorial march. I have learned to turn into pure energey and smite my enemies but I have fortunately not been in the centerfold of any magazines.

Well Killers,
Done Bataan twice, Nijnmegen twice and run 73 miles in 12 hours. Came in 3rd in BDE Combatives tournament last weekend for fun. Looking forward to your response.
Dave
PS I was drunk for at least 33% of those events

I served honorably in the U.S. Army from April 1964 to March 1973, during which I served 40 months in Viet Nam. I have run 6 marathons (the last being approximately 20 years ago) and currently maintain physical fitness by doing 65 minutes at level 13 on an eliptical machine, 3 sets of 7 pull-ups, 3 sets of 21 leg lifts on a roman chair, and 3 sets of back exercises using a 30 pound dumbbell. My goal is to do this on a daily basis, however I do average 5 times weekly. As far as whether I suck or not, I only seem to fit in with military/intel/law enforcement types. I hope I can make the heavy team.

I wanted to vote for Chris simply because of his name and b/c he is a Viet Nam vet, our often Forgotten Heroes. Thank you for serving, Chris.
HOWEVER, the wildside of me says THE DAVE. Everything about The Dave screams “beast”! he gets my vote!!
Wonder if he would show me any choke holds? hmmm

While Nuno and Chris do sound like excellent candidates, I have to vote for The Dave. I first Me The Dave out in Afghanistan, and it’s been a wild ride ever since. Rucked Bataan with him in 08, smashing fun time, and then he goes back and runs it the next year? Craziness. He runs 12 mi/day for FUN. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he was part machine.

My vote is for The Dave. He is one of the craziest SOB’S I know. If anyone can join up with yall and make everyone else think they can’t finish just by looking at them it’s The Dave.

If you’re looking for someone who can do keg stands and Jager bombs all night and still be motivated to run/walk 26.2 miles, The Dave is your man. He’ll definitely be able to hang with you guys on the march, he’s one of the coolest guys I know and best of all, he’s not a douche.

Definitely The Dave, I did the Bataan with him in 08, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. He is just an all around fun guy to hang with…

Man, if only I’d seen this a week or two earlier. I’m an 11B and I broke all my limbs last year in a motorcycle wreck, but I’d like to give the light division a try. If I can scrape together the cash and the leave, I’ll see you guys down there.

Well…
Been to two schools requiring the 12 miler: Air Assault School (Sabalauski Air Assault School, named after a CSM who wasn’t Air Assault qualified. Also known to those in the know as The REAL Air Assault School), and Sapper Leader Course, which was not a tab producing school at that time. Spent six years Regular Army and two years in the Guard as a 12B, had a break in service and re-joined the Guard three years ago with a Sapper Company. Did a tour in Iraq doing route clearance in Baghdad. I ruck 6 miles every other week with my 4 year old son on his bike. Current PT score is respectable, maxing push ups and sit ups and squeaking out in the 70-ish point range in the run. Real gangsta-ass niggas don’t run for shit ‘cuz real gangsta-ass niggas can’t run fast. I ain’t a tri-athlete, but I don’t suck, either. I’m the guy that refuses to quit. I’m the guy that carries the ruck of the other dude that is about to fall out because that’s how we roll. Hell, I’m they guy that blows shit up. What more could you ask for?

Hey Guys,
I have been on Corregidor Island and have walked the Bataan Death March route while visiting family back in Manila. It is a bitch. It is hot, humid, long and hilly. A definite full days worth of “Charlie Mike” even though the San Miguels were rather refreshing at the conclusion.
I can’t do the march with you guys even though I would love to but I have a real soft spot for this topic and figured I would say hi.
The one very, very cool thing about Corregidor and what makes it worth the visit is that the battlefield sits exactly as it did in 1945. The “hidden guns” are still there, the barracks and movie theatre on top side are still trashed with bullet marks in them…just an amazing trip if you love military history. I even found a piece of a pineapple grenade but left it behind because I didn’t know if the Filipino authorities have the same rules as their American counterparts in regards to removing things from places like Gettysburg.
Good luck guys and remember “Rangers Lead The Way”

Is there still a spot open? I’ve done Nijmegen. Run and swim everyday. Been with E/51 LRSC a few years. I’ve got break from classes next week so I’m up for anything. If not this, I’ll be on a 100mi hike regardless.
