Hollywood Rights A Wrong! Wait…What?!?

Enlisted

We have chronicled our disdain for Hollywood on many occasions here on Ye Olde Rhino Den and it isn’t often that I get a chance to report something of the contrary. I even ripped on the very show that I am about to praise a couple of months ago on twitter, flat-out refusing to even give it a chance based on the inaccuracy of Army life based on the previews alone.

Evidently I wasn’t the only one who voiced my opinion and the producers of FOX’s Enlisted recognized the error of their ways. So much in fact, that they are having a contest where you get to point out all of the inaccuracies of their lingo, appearance, uniforms…the works… and tell FOX how jacked-up-like-a-football-bat they are. Then, you get a coin for helping them un-fuck themselves. Here is the official announcement from Enlisted.

Did you notice in the video that Geoff Stults was speaking our language? Even the little things like “SNAFU” and “shaving profile” make all the difference in the validity of a show in the eyes of a service-member or Veteran. This is a comedy and as we have all said many times, there is nothing funnier than the men and women in uniform. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and watch more than one show (because I know that the first one is going to be FUBAR). And while I haven’t seen an episode yet, I will say that the absence of Ranger Up gear in their off-duty time will most definitely be a no-go. We’re going to have to work on that.

Check out the Enlisted on Fox website for more information on the contest (to be updated soon) and head over to their Enlisted FB page and give it a liking, it is the least we can do for someone trying to right a wrong. Tell them that Ranger Up sent you to keep them squared away. DO IT NOW!!!

Might actually give that show a chance.

Maybe I hang out with Dale Dye too much, but… sounds to me like someone might be trying to avoid the expense of hiring a paid Military Technical Advisor…

because they want to give it a chance to be accurate to a point. i wouldn’t mind if it was in the style of the movie Stripes. so i’ll give them a chance.

We were the consultants on the show, after the pilot. I recommend you check out the Facebook discussion on this topic for more insight. Significant improvements made from the pilot on subsequent episodes.

You guys realize that it’s all part of a publicity stunt to get more viewers for the show, right? They knew we’d be pissed, so they offer a “contest” to tell them how jacked up they are. Now you are planning on watching the show. See how that works? Please tell me you aren’t that gullible.

      Sergeant Van,

I am one of the Wafighters that worked on the show. I promise you that this is no publicity stunt. As MMEC stated up top, they were hired on to fix what is wrong.

I was treated with the utmost respect; not just from the Director but from cast and crew.

Honestly, do you think a production company would utilize a “publicity stunt” to win Warfighters over? Especially knowing that a Warfighter can smell BS a mile away?

It is a sincere approach to right what is wrong. Nothing more, nothing less.

As soon as I saw the commercials for this show I knew I wanted to watch it. I also knew it wouldn’t be correct in any way, shape or form. Who cares? It’s a comedy that is meant for entertainment. Yes, it will probably be more funny to the .45% if the jargon is correct, but that may or may not be accurate for the other 99.55%. Just sit back and let yourself be entertained. You’re going to be sitting in front of the TV laughing because the dumbass can’t do anything right, so why not just laugh because the dumbass can’t get his uniform right either?

I get it’s for entertainment and there will be snafus. If it would of been a movie like In the Army now, then ok but a series of making the American Soldier look bad, not no but hell no. It just makes us Soldiers who do give a damn look like idiots.
