Hero of the Week: David Draiman

By
Updated: July 18, 2013

By RU Rob

Earlier this week, Rolling Stone, the formerly greatest music mag on the planet, published an absolutely disgusting cover of their most recent issue. Underneath the mop head of hair and behind a pre-teen-trying-to-grow-a-beard fuckstick was none other than Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s face. Rolling Stone had the audacity to not only put this fuck-nugget on the cover but also to airbrush his photograph to make look just as desirable as any other teenage heart-throb.

The media has been real slow to cover this story, but a Hero has emerged. David Draiman, lead singer and songwriter for the perennial military favorite band Disturbed as well as his new project Device, had some choice words for Rolling Stone. The following is the message that David conveyed directly to Rolling Stone via both his and Disturbed’s Facebook page and is more than worthy to be posted here so that all of you know just how bad-ass he is. It is unedited for your reading pleasure. Make sure you read it all the way through.

@RollingStone

HOW FAR THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN,

I USED TO DREAM OF MAKING THE COVER OF ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE, AS IT USED TO BE THE ULTIMATE STATEMENT OF LEGITIMACY FOR AN ASPIRING MUSICIAN AND IT MEANT THAT YOU HAD REALLY MADE IT. OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, ROLLING STONE HAS BECOME LESS AND LESS ABOUT MUSIC, AND HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE ABOUT BULLSHIT, POP CULTURE NONSENSE. EVEN THOUGH MANY OF US MAY NOT CARE FOR IT, WE WERE ABLE TO LIVE WITH IT…UNTIL THIS.

YOU…DARE…TO…PUT…THE…IMAGE…OF…THE…BOSTON…BOMBER…ON…THE…FUCKING…COVER…OF…YOUR…MAGAZINE!!!!????

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR ULTRA-LIBERAL, SYMPATHETIC TO A FAULT, FUCKING MINDS???

YOU HAVE NOT ONLY SUCCEEDED IN BLATANTLY INSULTING AND DISHONORING THE VICTIMS AND FAMILIES WHOSE LIVES WERE FOREVER EFFECTED BY THIS RABID ANIMAL, BUT YOU HAVE NOW GLORIFIED HIS COWARDLY AND UNFORGIVABLE ACT. WHY? BECAUSE IT WILL SELL MAGAZINES? BECAUSE IT WILL CREATE CONTROVERSY? BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY DO SYMPATHIZE WITH THIS ABHORRENT, COWARDLY, PIECE OF SHIT? YOU HAVE MADE IT ATTRACTIVE AND VALIDATED THE ACT, TO A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF WANNA BE TERRORISTS SEEKING MARTYRDOM AND INFAMY. YOU, AND YOUR KIND ARE THE REASON WHY PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY CAN GO OUT “IN A BLAZE OF GLORY” WHILE MURDERING INNOCENTS. HONESTLY, AND I MEAN THIS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART…GO…FUCK…YOURSELVES.

dave_draiman_

David Draiman

THE NEXT TERRORIST/MURDERING INCIDENT, BE IT ANOTHER BOMBER, OR A MADMAN WITH AN ASSAULT RIFLE, UNLEASHING FIRE UPON A SCHOOL FULL OF CHILDREN, IS ON YOU.

MAY YOUR CONSCIENCES (IF YOU EVEN HAVE THEM) WIEGH IMMEASURABLE HEAVY ON YOU FOR THE REST FO YOUR LIVES. I CONDEMN THIS ACT, THIS NOTION, AND THIS WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT FUCKING RAG OF A MAGAZINE. MAY THE POWERS THAT BE HAVE MERCY UPON YOUR SOULS, BECAUSE THE NEXT TIME SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, I ASSURE YOU, THE WORLD WONT.

-GO TO HELL

From David Draiman @DavidDraiman

Thank you David Draiman and Ranger Up! We need more people like this to make this country the proud and upstanding America that it could be! Hooah!

I love what he said, word for word… except the assault rifle comment. I always liked Disturbed, only like them even more after that. Dropkick Murphys also wrote a good piece about the cover of Rolling Stone, though I am having trouble finding it again.

Rolling Stone has always had more than just rock stars on their cover. They have put rap stars, actors, actresses, presidents, talk show hosts, comedians, producers, models, politicians, and cartoons on the cover. It is not just a music magazine. And here is the real issue. You defend the Second amendment so damn much, what about the First? As an Army vet, I thought we defended all those freedoms, not select ones.

      Bloodworthy,

You are correct, we are staunch supporters of the 2nd Amendment as well as the 1st. As a matter of fact, I am using that same guarantee of the 1st Amendment to publicly lambast RS for their Douchebaggery. It is a two-way street.

Let’s put it like this: if you want to act like a fool, expect to be treated like a fool.

      Bloodworthy,

As Rob said the 1st is a two way street. I think it is also worth bringing to your attention that the 1st assures the right to free speech no matter how much of a douchebag you are. However, nowhere in the 1st does it say anything about the right to free speech protecting anyone from the consequences of exercising that right. If you say something stupid or offensive there is nothing there saying you have the right to not be judged on the basis of your stupidity.

I stopped reading after you vomited a twisted version of American constitutional rights, aka Amendments. Freedom of Speech is protected by the Constitution written by our forefathers who stood against tyranny and stood for freedom. I can assure you that glorifying a terrorist who claimed and changed lives of hard working, honest Proud Americans is not covered by the first Amendment. By the way, those affected by the blast were young, old, liberal, conservative, white, black, etc. and that day was yet again another example of badass Americans coming together with support and love and faith. There were over a hundred people affected that earned the cover a billion times over this piece of shit. Great effort by attempting to defend a despicable magazine putting a terrorist, anti-American douchebag responsible for taking the lives of people that were loved, respected, and now buried underground and missed everyday. You are on the same level as that stupid mother fucker. I hope he is placed in general pop in prison before executed, where the fucked up sick inmates find shit like him disgusting. If this punk ever gets released in anyway, ill kill him myself. Bloodworthy, from the bottom of my heart, fuck yourself.

I also served my country. You are right they have the right to say what ever they want to. However; it is also our right as free citizens to use ours’s to speak out against stupidity. We also have a capitalist economic system and it is our right to support anyone we want with out extra money. When they are loosing money because they pulled this stupid stunt, it is their own fault.

To Bloodworthy: no one begrudged the “right” to speak, just the shear stupidity of choosing to, and portray a Terrorist as something other than pure evil. Sure, RS has the “right” to write and publish anything they want, but just because they can, doesn’t mean they should. And as was so pointedly stated, they lost a tremendous number of readers to a stupid, moronic, insulting choice. Yea, they may have a right to be stupid, just as you do, but it doesn’t mean you have to open your mouth (text) and prove it. Sometimes just keeping ignorance to yourself is better.

While I agree with Odin that Mr Draiman’s “assault rifle” comment could be worded a little better, he nonetheless nails it as far as the disgusting nature of the insanely liberal and utterly tone-deaf hippyfest of a publication known as Rolling Stone.

I can’t say I’m too surprised at these people though. I read that filthy rag once and *only* once 12 years ago at the age of 17 while on lunchbreak at my summer job. When I stumbled across a page (and i can’t make this stuff up) rating the “Hottest Gay Black Orgy Porno of 2001,” I threw that shit across the room, having learned all I ever needed to know about the people who write and edit it.

Thus they can be relied upon to always be tasteless, disgusting, and morally bankrupt. So I am sickened by how they glorify this bloodthirsty little shitstain, but not surprised.

David Draiman and DIsturbed fucking blows… that cunt takes himself WAY to seriously. If Rolling Stone put you on the cover you would jump at the chance right away. Fuck off and let RS magazine exercise their right to Freedom of Speech and quit your bitching.

    • Whitey

      July 20, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Yes, Brian, Rolling Stone’s freedom of speech allows them to put whoever they want on the cover. It also allows Dave Draiman and everybody else to call them out as assholes and douchebags for abusing that freedom with bad taste and lack of consideration. That knife cuts both ways, dude.

We all need to show the people at rolling stone, and their followers, that we are tired of this. More and more of us need to voice our opinions louder and louder each day.

What are you guys talking about? He’s saying that an assault rifle is more likely used in a MASS murder if the act is involving fire arms. History, math, and common sense would dictate that to be a valid opinion. It’s called an “assaul” rifle for a reason. They aren’t made with civilian use in mind. Truth.

    @ Anthony
The term assault rifle is a fictional term. It was concocted to confuse less intelligent folks such as yourself. I don’t know anyone who seriously refers to their AR as an assault rifle. Are we going to start calling handguns “assault pistols” as well.

“The media has been real slow to cover this story”?? The media jumped on this the millisecond it became known. Facts are fun.

The first Amendment does give Rolling Stone the right to print that crap. But why the hell would they want to Glorify that person’s act? Hollywood has started over the past seven or eight years, more and more crap has been legitimized. I understand the meaning of peace with other cultures, creeds, and races. But when one has decided to attack another, it is not something to be “Celebrated.” Not only does it allow the new terrorists the hope of infamy, as you stated, but it makes young people of our country, more accepting of it when it happens. Where is our Revolution? Why are we, as a nation, not going WHAT THE FUCK! We are fighters, but everywhere we look we are fighting each other, and loosing faith in our neighbors. Everything is Politically Correct, and lord help you if you disagree with any one else opinion. You are then labeled a bigot, racist, or anarchist, or internal terrorist, and it doesn’t matter what race you are for this to happen. Its time to drop the bull. To see the shit that is going and say, Fuck it! That is it! If we have to over haul the whole House of Representatives and Senate along with the White House so be it! We have our rights, and no one can take them away. “”The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.” ~ Thomas Jefferson, but in truth that quote applies to all of our Freedoms and Rights. Never Forget!

Are you serious? Look at the state of this world right now. Mr. Draiman, you are right! I am proud to say that I work for a retail store that took it off the shelf. I don’t care whose right it is, it’s wrong. Look at all the futuristic science fiction movies and that is exactly what this world is becoming. STOP THE VIOLENCE and STOP GLORIFYING THE CRIMINAL.

Mr. Draiman, thank you for voicing your opinion and exercising your first amendment rights, thank you RU Rob for bringing this to our attention. And most importantly, thank you Rolling Stone for, once again, being the shining example of what a journalistic publication should not be. I can pretty much say to every one on this thread, if you don’t like what someone has to say, fuck ’em, you don’t have to listen to what they say. That said, Rolling Stone needs to pull their collective heads out of their fourth point of contact most ricky-tick.

  19. Paul Ripley

    August 27, 2013 at 6:58 pm

I am the first cousin of Col. John W. Ripley USMC deceased (former Hero of the Week) and am the patriarch of the Ripley family. My father, Dr. Louis P. Ripley, was a USN Commander in the South Pacific as a surgeon. I will speak for both of them in regards to the publishing of the “Why did you do it” RS cover. Two of their favorite sayings were, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to” and “I don’t talk to or try to reason with ignorance, life is short and I have better things to do”.

  20. Vik

    October 2, 2013 at 5:25 pm

Anyone who thinks any semiautomatic rifle is an assault rifle has obviously never taken part in an assault.

Therefore they have not earned the right to comment on assault anything. Someone else earned it for them, though, and they could at least be appreciative enough to use the correct terminology.

I saw a thing on a liberal website (friends close, enemy closer) referring to AR15’s as “weapons of mass destruction”, that will be the new battle-squeak of the idiocracy.

I agree with those above that free speech means the RS can write what they like, and anyone else can not like it and call them out. So they got called out, probably don’t give a shit, maybe they like it. I might have read part of an issue 40 years ago, maybe, can’t remember, didn’t buy it though…

Yeah, the all-caps is just annoying.

The whole point is to surprise and confuse people… it’s not meant to glorify him, and if you read the article it’s a fascinating story about the background of someone who did a terrible thing. It doesn’t justify or make excuses; the article and the cover pic simply challenge people’s idea of Disney stories where everyone’s completely good or completely bad and the heroes are beautiful and the villains are ugly.
