Douche of the Week: The Troops are Welfare Whores

By
Updated: August 28, 2012

By Mr. Twisted

Yes, you read that title correctly. There is a group out there with the name of “The Troops are Welfare Whores.” They are on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/antimilitarism

I came across it by chance a few days ago and decided to, instead of just getting pissed off, strike up a conversation with whoever runs the group. His page and emails to me describe the following beliefs:

“The military, along with welfare recipients, are part of that parasitic sector of the economy.”

“…what sense does it make to blame the people who create oppressive laws and murderous policies and then turn around and hold the people who actually execute the oppressive laws and murderous policies completely blameless?

“The military is the enforcement arm of the monstrous United States government. If we are to be consistent, we must blame the government and the troops in the same breath.”

“I don’t hate America. I love America, which is exactly why I am so passionate about this issue. The militaristic United States Government is the greatest enemy of America, and is more of a danger to Americans than any foreign terrorist.”

“I don’t hate the troops. I pity them, just as I pity any cultist.”

Where to begin? The doucheyness is strong in this one, to be sure.

There are those who say “well, I respect his right to speak freely,” and that’s fine. There are also those who would say that at least the dude is honest and not hiding – that is also fine.

What is not fine is that he is, above all other things, a complete moron masquerading as an intellectual. And that is where I feel it to be my duty to call out stupid where I see it and shine a light upon it.

Keep in mind that for any rational belief system, one must have something to base that belief upon. For example, if you are of the mentality that our country has gone off the rails, politically speaking, you can cite the good ol’ Constitution of the United States of America as a reference for how and why things are wrong. Or, bringing it to a personal level, if you think that you are, in fact, tougher than all of your friends, you can all go out on the mat and test that theory – the results of said scuffles being the reference to use later for who was tougher than whom (and, of course, holding over one another’s head….forever).

The “Welfare Whores” guy, however, seems to have concocted this belief system out of thin air. Why are troops a “parasitic” part of the economy? Well, because he said so! How is the militaristic government a danger to Americans? Because he said so! Why are military members “cultists”? You guessed it…

There are so many erroneous claims made on his FAQ page that I’m not sure where to begin and where to end. He claims that he “loves America,” yet his definition of “America” is, apparently, completely made up in his own mind and exists nowhere other than among his own followers. His claim that the military enforces oppressive laws is more than slightly lacking in coherent thought, given the fact that the military doesn’t enforce laws in our country. This would seem to be obvious to anyone with even an elementary level civics education, but apparently the concept is lost on him (Department of Justice and the Department of Defense are, the last I checked, different departments, no?).

What makes a guy like this a total Douche is not his difference of opinion; it is that he lives in a fantasy world created by him and substantiated by a massive ignorance of the real world, which he then chooses to inflict on some of the best individuals our country has to offer.

Here is a quick reality check: The United States Military is quite literally the most beneficial use of our tax dollars when compared to any other government expenditure. Actual welfare, for example, has not “produced” anything – nor will it. But one cannot turn around without bumping into a piece of technology that was at least partially developed by military funding.

Oh, and that whole stopping foreign militaries from killing millions of people was pretty important, last I checked.

In an age where fully one third of our country’s population – yes, that’s correct, one third – is on actual welfare, to state that those who are out there kicking ass, taking names, and contributing positively to the world we live in are “welfare whores” is not only monumentally stupid and insulting, it’s downright Douchetastic.

Woo! We were lucky enough to be enriched by two, not one but two, douches of the week.

“This would seem to be obvious to anyone with even an elementary level civics education..” Meh. He’s got rage to seethe and injustices to rant about. He can’t be bothered to stop his all important work to do some basic thinking and consideration.

I would go to his Facebook page and educate him, but frankly I expect he won’t be able to hear it over the sound of his own douchiness.

    Which is worse:

    To be called a mercenary?

To be called a “Welfare Whore”?

It only further proves why we are the .45%.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are true morons out there that actually BELIEVE this crap!! But, as the 4-star who was CinC of NATO at the time when President Reagan was putting nukes in Europe aimed at the Soviet Block (back in the ’80s, yes I’m showing my age…) said during his speech, when a radical lib decided to run screaming down the aisle of the auditorium shouting “baby killer” at him… (I’m going to paraphrase here, but you’ll get the idea) – “Security, hold on a second – I have something to say to him. Young man, I’ve spent my entire adult life defending your freedom to say whatever you please, regardless of how uninformed, inaccurate and moronic it might be. OK, security, you can take him away now.” Needless to say, the entire audience erupted in cheers for several minutes! Especially the group I was sitting with, all proudly wearing our sweatshirts with ARMY in 4″ block letters across the front (we were told by our ROTC cadre that we could NOT wear our uniforms…)

Probably a question I should know the answer to but I really don’t. Please tell me why you could not wear your uniforms if you so desired or was this because they wanted you all to be able to dress the same everyone did not have a clean fitting uniform available? Working and still getting told it is welfare? What they want is all not to be getting any money unless they are as wealthy and “work” like they do and percieve that the benefits that you get are not part of your contract but rather a hand out? Maybe if the shoe was on the other foot they could understand. Low ranking individuals are by no means well off and in the state where I live welfare reciepients get about 1/5th of what they really need to be able to live and pay all the things a person would normally associate with living today. Kind of hard to get on your feet getting this little and everytime you get an extra dollar they take it back out of you. Widows pensions usually are not much more than what you could get in some states for welfare and not all automatically just get this either. There is a waiting list for our disabled and wounded Vets that is entirely too long and seems like too little money too too late to me. What world these people that consider any government type money that is in your contract when you go into service WELFARE I do not know but I really wish they would keep that world to themselves. How ignorant and useless they are!

Just got blocked for calling the guy a cocksucker, and then barraging him with facts about why his shitty argument comparing freakin’ COSTA RICA of all countries with the United States. Costa Rica: A country with roughly half the population of New York City that’s not even a longshot to being a superpower. Of course, why would the World’s Greenest Country in 2009 need a military? Who in their right fucking mind would find it benefiting to their national interests to attack fucking Costa Rica? This guy is a dumb cunt for sure.

Still not sure what I said wrong, but apparently something didn’t sit well with the guy. Maybe the cocksucker thing…..nah…couldn’t be.

    August 29, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Yeah. This guy is a classic intellectual wannabe whose efforts are driven more by anecdotal evidence and his own beliefs and experiences rather than actual intellectual exploration into the issues he cares about. He’s bitter and pissed about something, and is one of those types who likes to wallow in anger rather than actually do something constructive. Of course, I could be wrong, but I’ve seen his type before. Most people that I have dealt with whom I consider to be intellectuals (academics, senior level officers and some very smart and hard working junior officers) who are interested in the topic of the military understand its place in domestic government operations and the broader world’s socio-economic and socio-political systems. That being said, I realize that’s anecdotal information, too. To back up my beliefs, I’ll offer that I am a PhC, and have spent many years studying human behavior, both in and out of the military context. I’m also a veteran.

I liked how he complained on his FB page that this article represented the “latest” trolling efforts to attack him when his whole page is just one giant trolling expedition. Don’t even get me started on all the BS he’s got there about being a master at logic and argument. Usually people who are really good at something don’t advertise it that heavily, they don’t need to.

The logic behind calling the troops ‘welfare whores’ is completely consistent.

To value reason and logic is to value internal consistency with any theory. Regarding the relations among human beings, the non agression principle (NAP) is the only universalize-able enforceable ethical position. (look this up on wikipedia, etc to find the syllogistic proofs).

It follows that handshakes are productive endeavors as they were chosen. Actions that initiate force – murder, assault, rape, and theft- are destructive and criminal. Since taxation is theft, all that steal or benefit from it are part of a parasitical class. This includes, soldiers.

    • Michael Hess

      March 19, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Well you were doing OK until you forgot to say how taxation is theft. I guess if that’s so; than all the public school children and science students who receive grant money are thieves. So are you since you drive on roads and bridges constructed by tax money. Oh and nice try using a pretentious, esoteric, and just downright douchetastic word like “syllogistic” to make yourself sound smarter. It just means deductive reasoning. Suck out my farts and die.

Just wanted to mention that he has not necessarily derived his conclusions out of nothing. He uses the term “Welfare Whore” loosely, but its definition is still relevant. He seems to be defining “Welfare Whore” as anyone who recieves tax-payer money. Don’t take my word for it, but that’s how it appears to me.

From that definition it would indeed follow that troops, as well as public school teachers, politicians, welfare recipiants, GI Grant recipiants, etc. are all “Welfare Whores.”

You mean I don’t get to enforce laws OR kill babies? What was the point in enlisting, then? C’mon people, cut the guy some slack. Sure, he’s he’s deluded himself enough to believe his own line of B.S. which was driven from an over-inflated sense of self-importance and the likelihood that his mother never breastfed him, but he’s got 855 people who have clicked the “like” button on his page. There are more people on this planet who believe the moon landing was a hoax. There are more people who believe that the Holocaust never happened. Hell, there are more fully-grown adults who still believe in the Easter Bunny than there are proponents of his crap. Fools will be led anywhere, so it’s pointless to ponder what kind of anti-military sentiment he’s stirring up because his followers are just that easily swayed. Anyway, the ease of accessibility to the internet has allowed his kind to broadcast their idiocy far and wide so that we all may be plagued (or amused) by their oh-so apparent misinformation and obvious gullibility.

I got on his page and challenged him to reveal that information or post a copy of his DD214 (with SSN blacked out of course). I haven’t gotten a reply from the owner of the page yet but the mud slinging began anyway and when the mud slinging and accusations of racism began (they accused me [half Hispanic] and my cousin [full Hispanic] of killing brown skinned people), my Ghost Troop buddies came on the page and schooled them in my defense. There has still been no reply in regards to any proof that this guy was ever really in the military.

Also, to call us cowards for standing up for the military that we grew up in, the country that we love and the Americans (* YES THIS IS YOU*), whom we have fought, gotten injured and some died, just to protect your right to speak about subjects that you have no clue on! I myself am a Veteran, married to a school teacher. The two, not to or too, the TWO of us are appalled by the shier nerve you have to rant in such a way. Lets, next time, try to be a bit more educated or at least seem that way. Spell check works, google will even tell you the correct way to word your rebuttal. But if you feel really strong about this matter then I suggest you contact the local MWR or USO….yes I’d go with the USO and schedule a tour so you can go and spread your word to our deployed soldiers! Someone needs to teach you proper English it seems to me your handle is a fake and English is not your first language. and like I said on my brother-in-laws site if you don’t like our country LEAVE! I love my country and I love our military we should be proud of them as a hole and work to get any that do not uphold the high standards we demand of them out. The people in our armed forces are human and as such they can make mistakes and some can go off the deep end but the numbers of those that fall into those groups is a very small percentage without the military any group who wanted to could probably take over our country or any other they wanted. Why don’t you learn history about what happened to countries who had no army to defend it before you make uneducated comments.

The citizens of Douchebagistan are invading, to arms…to arms!

It’s kinda cute how one of them will come here, spew forth their irrational brain-vomit and then scurry back to the page to receive congratulations, as if they actually accomplished something.

First off, as a Libertarian I’m finding myself in an uncomfortable position. I wasn’t aware one of the fringe loonies escaped the asylum. Otherwise I would have called out a general alarm and rounded up the attendants to corral him back into his cell.

I read the FAQ. Didn’t take long, as I’m sure it required great effort to hold that rancid lump of tapioca MacDuffy considers a brain together enough to operate a keyboard.

I’m always kinda surprised when I hear or read one of these extremists spouting off something along the lines of “no living soldier has defended my freedom”. The simple fact is, every single living serviceman (and servicewomen..just in case it needs be said) has done just that, simply by being there.

Dennis Miller once quipped something along the lines of “If we didn’t have an army, our enemies would be on us like a fat man on a buffet line”. And he’s right.

“Oh..but we wouldn’t have enemies if we didn’t have an army”. Well, you’re right there, because we wouldn’t have a country either.

“No, I mean we wouldn’t have enemies because we wouldn’t be fucking around in other people’s countries”. Well you’re right there too, because we wouldn’t have a country.

But I see what you (my hypothetical opponent) is saying. You’re saying “If we weren’t mean to other people, they wouldn’t be mean to us”.

    Bullshit.

I saw a quote recently that supposed the first military caste was armed bandits. And that’s likely true. There’s always the envious, the lazy who want what you have and think you should give it to them. And if you refuse, they attempt to take it whether you want to give it over or not.

Oh. And as an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment, an armed militia isn’t going to cut it if any invasion threat where to materialize on our shores. Any threat that manages to get it together enough to hit our shores or borders, like…say…Canada is going to be too organized, too well-equipped for a buncha untrained boys from Paducah Kentucky to defeat with their scatter guns. Ain’t happening. I don’t care how sneaky and how great they are at putting a squirrel’s eye out at 1000m. All that means exactly squat if someone decides to carpet bomb the forest you’re using for cover.

That’s further compounded by the fact that people are innately cowards. It takes training, practice, and yes even desensitization to fight in a modern war. You don’t get that much by hanging out at the Jamba Juice in your local mall.

As far as his claims to have served in the military go…meh. Maybe.

It could be that he’s a lying piece of sewer filth who thinks it’ll sell his position better if he pretends to have been a soldier who “saw the light” and gave up his evil ways. Maybe.

On the other hand, it’s a sad reality that there are some veterans out there who are certifiably insane.

While I dont share this mans opinions on the Military. I do have to state a fact that has not been brought up. The Military DO enforce laws at times. During the aftermath of Katrina, the Military was used to conduct house to house raids and disarm American Citizens in New Orleans. That is a fact, and a scary one at that. And whats even scarier, now we have the choice between Obama and Romney (who just said in 2008 that unreasonably leathal firearms should be outlawed, course now he says he’s completely pro gun)… not looking good for the home team.

  25. Nik Corvus

    August 31, 2012 at 11:11 am

Well Tanner, I hear you. Yes, the NG does enforce laws in special circumstances.

As far as the “unreasonably lethal firearms”, goes…I guess it depends on who determines unreasonable, and what criteria they use.

As Libertarian as I am, I can’t see much call for Joe Citizen to be sporting a SAW. They probably don’t need a 50-cal turret on the back of their SUV.

To understand the Psychology of these individuals I’ll leave it to a fellow Brit to explain…Dr Samuel Johnson

Johnson: “Every man thinks meanly of himself for not having been a soldier, or not having been at sea.”
    Boswell: “Lord Mansfield does not.”
Johnson: “Sir, if Lord Mansfield were in a company of General Officers and Admirals who have been in service, he would shrink; he’d wish to creep under the table…Sir, the profession of soldiers and sailors has the dignity of danger. Mankind reverence those who have got over fear, which is so general a weakness.”

I would either post that and politely explain their position, as covered by one of the Giants of English Literature is one of fear that they possess any courage whatsoever to face Physical Discomfort and Hardship. That their clubbing together under the banner of “antimilitarism” isn’t healthy as they are reinforcing their negative behaviour and succumbing to their inadequacies and fear of inadequacy. Or alternatively just cut to the chase and call them a bunch of Yellow mouth breathing Cunts with cocks the size of cocktail saussages to save a bit of time.

  29. Jake

    September 18, 2012 at 4:28 pm

    This isn’t complicated.

    1. Taxation is theft (This includes monetary inflation).
    2. Troops, cops, etc. are paid with that stolen money.
    3. Government workers get more benefit from government jobs than they would from private jobs, otherwise they would be working private jobs.

Conclusion: Government workers are “welfare-whores” who are paid with stolen money.

    Part II

Defense does not have to be funded by aggression. Volunteer militias and private defense companies are also viable options. History has proven that they can be effective. Here is a video based on David Friedman’s “Machinery of Freedom” regarding voluntary dispute resolution (forcefully resolving disputes is the whole point of a military).

Actually, the beliefs of this facebook page are based on the non-aggression principle and basic human action (or Austrian Economics):

Non-agression principle: is an ethical stance which asserts that “aggression” is inherently illegitimate. “Aggression” is defined as the “initiation” of physical force against persons or property, the threat of such, or fraud upon persons or their property.

    • Mr. Twisted

      Sean,

I am quite familiar with the Austrian model of economics and am an advocate for its principles, as well.

That being said, desiring and working towards a certain economic principle and school of thought is one thing; attacking those who are willing to get off their asses and serve their country *as it is now* is entirely another. While I may agree with Austrian school of economics (Ludwig von Mises, Hayek, et al) and the lessons therein, going after people who serve our Keynesian-style government does nothing to further that cause, and only serves to make advocates of Austrian economic policy appear to be a bunch of stark-raving lunatics that aren’t sure of their own argument.

you ignored the non-aggression principle half of his argument and went on to strawman that serving a “country” is somehow equivalent to virtue ignoring that

        ““aggression” is inherently illegitimate.”

to me, douchebags are more likely to be the guys who write a blog about who douchebags are rather than self-reflecting.

Rational? Rationalize this for me please. Our country puts individuals away for murder. The people in this country freak out about mass murders of children in schools. Anything that is about THEM is taken seriously and anything is rational when it comes to protecting themselves. So how the heck is it rational to compile a huge group of killers and conduct mass killings in other countries of innocents and then rationalize it all in your minds that it is good, right and justified? Psychotic leaders, psychotic followers. No, this person didn’t get it right either by posting that facebook page. You can’t deliver the sleeping psychotic out of their trances by attacking them. And I already know that many people, especially soldiers were woken from their psychosis soon after their first kill of an innocent or soon after witnessing some horror inflicted onto a non-American citizen and/or their own. Patriarchal rule with it’s wars and male entitlement doesn’t work. The U.S. is a killing and raping culture and I just can’t find any pride or sanity in that.
