Editor’s note: I have been watching a particular writer over the last couple of weeks on his blog, twitter account, through his front window…er…nevermind.  Please let me introduce The Rhino Den’s newest contributor, SGT Awesome.

Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to Douche of the Week; this week brought to you by the state of Illinois. Incumbent House Representative Joe Walsh is being challenged by Lieutenant Colonel Tammy Duckworth (Illinios Army National Guard). I can see that you already smell what I am cooking, but I will hold your hand along the path of douchedom anyway.

Rep. Walsh is running on a who-gives-a-fuck platform of whatever, against LTC Duckworth who is running on a who-gives-a-fuck platform of whatever. Politics is completely irrelevant to the douchecracy of Rep. Walsh’s statements towards his opponent.

LTC Duckworth is not only a veteran, but she is a double amputee. She was a Blackhawk pilot whose helicopter was shot down by an insurgent with an RPG in Iraq in 2004. I have my own personal bias towards female helicopter pilots (They fucking ROCK!) but I will ignore that for now and just look at the facts.

During a speech to a group of very uncomfortable looking people (look up the video on the youtubes, these people look they were just given a really shitty gift for Christmas that they have to pretend to like so Grandma doesn’t get offended) Rep. Walsh compares Senator John McCain’s 2008 Presidential run to LTC Duckworth’s current House run. He saith, and I quoth:

“Understand something about John McCain. His political advisers, day after day, had to take him and almost throw him against a wall and hit him against the head and say, “Senator, you have to let people know you served! You have to talk about what you did!” He didn’t want to do it, wouldn’t do it. Day after day they had to convince him. Finally, he talked a little bit about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him. That’s what’s so noble about our heroes. Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about. That’s why we’re so indebted and in awe of what they’ve done.”

So, let me get this straight, he wants to compare Sen. McCain’s reluctance to speak about being tortured for five and a half years as a prisoner of war, to anyone else. Are you fucking kidding me? I don’t even have to touch on the extreme difference in culture of the Vietnam era to now to recognize the fucking ridiculousness of this statement.

The man was tortured for five years! You, nor I, nor anyone else can imagine what he truly went through. [He would fucking sleep through five years at Gitmo, but that’s neither here nor there.]

Obviously these statements riled up veteran groups all over, and when Rep. Walsh was pressed about his fucktarded comments, he responded with this:

“Of course Tammy Duckworth is a hero. I have called her a hero 100’s of times in the past four months. Just like every man and woman who has worn the uniform, her service demands — demands — our utmost respect. That’s why I recognize our veterans at the beginning of every one of my public town halls. However, unlike most veterans I have had the honor to meet since my election to Congress, who rarely if ever talk about their service or the combat they’ve seen, that is darn near all of what Tammy Duckworth talks about. Her service demands our thanks and our respect but not our vote. She is running for Congress — and there are real problems in this country like our massive debt, high unemployment and the Obamacare tax. We are about four months from Election Day and the people of Illinois have no idea where Tammy Duckworth stands on these issues because she dodges debate requests, ignores our invitations to speak at town halls, refuses to talk about solutions and constantly reminds voters of her war service. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with her for her service and her loss but these are serious times and the people of Illinois deserve to know what she thinks about real issues and what she will do as a Congresswoman.”

Filing that last part under the “I Don’t Give A Fuck What You Are Running On” folder, he still, once again, sticks his douchetastic foot right in to his mouth and lets his true feelings be known. His view of a “true” veteran is one of stoic silence. He doesn’t want to know what you’ve seen or done. He doesn’t care. He ignores the fact that if you go to war and come back minus some limbs, that it just might be extremely fucking relevant to how a person looks at the world. He is more than happy to give you a blanket “thank you for your service” but past that he doesn’t give two shits what you’ve truly sacrificed and how it affects your views. His concern is getting re-elected and he just wants to fire up his political base against his opponent. Veterans however, cover all bases and we don’t take kindly to being shat upon. What every veteran experiences is completely different than every other veteran and to imply that because LTC Duckworth has chosen to speak about her experiences that she is any less of a hero than anyone else who has served this great country of ours, grants him a seat which he has not intentionally run for, yet has earned without doubt.

The seat in question is at the Grand Table of Douchedom where Rep. Walsh will never again have to run for re-election.

When I first read the headline, I started freaking out. Funk #49 is one of the greatest songs in the history of mankind–a piece sent from the Heavens. I thought I was going to have to disavow legendary Eagle’s front-man, Joe Walsh. Then I read the article about this half-witted fucknugget. The lengths people will go to in order to stay in office keeps getting lower and lower. Congrats, Illinois, even your Republicans are corrupt dickweeds.

    Great writing, Sgt. Awesome!

FNG nails it. The LTC SHOULD talk about her experiences, help others get over the stigma of their injuries both physical and non-physical. IL politics is so majorly corrupt, we as a nation should expect their incumbents to be fucktards.

    You Go FNG!

I understand that this guy is trying to get his opponent to address the politics of the platform she is running on so that he can debate her on the issues because that is his only chance he has at getting votes; if he can expose her inexperience in the political arena. He can’t compete with her service record, and he especially can’t compete with her sacrifice; but come on dude! What a dickhole way to do it. Nice piece SGT Awesome. I’d recommend you for OCS but it would be freakin’ waste of a Goddam outstanding NCO!!! Carry on.

Like Jack I was worried that I would have to disavow one of the two remaining non dipshit Eagles.

I’m releived that it is just this fuckstick frpm Illinois who deserves some free bang tango lessons.

It’s not post WWII, or Korea or Viet Nam, we need these folks to talk about their service and what it did to them. Its called “healing” maybe Congressman Dillrod should look into it.

I wish I lived in Il, I would vote for her twice

Thanks for following up on this one, guys. This kind of over-the-top, unapologetic asshattery is only deserving of a RU-style shaming. Great job, SGT A, you nailed that one:, question her politics all you want – whofuckingcares – but when you feel the need to impugn her service, and obvious sacrifices, for your own politics because she served and is proud of it – now we have a problem. Mr. Walsh, if you didn’t choose to serve, that’s your deal – but to question the “true” heroics of a combat-wounded veteran by invoking the service of “other” people you knew, and dropping in McCain’s name to try to support your douchebaggery…c’mon, man. Looking forward to the next one, SGT A.

As a Vietnam combat LRRP 67-68 . I sort of see his point. She is a hero no doubt and gave much for her country but being a disabled vet is not a free ticket. He wants her to stick more to the issues and less to her disability,I understand that. He does come about in a crass manner for sure and has no tact but I get what he’s saying .I believe he respects the veteran.

As a disabled veteran myself, I get really tired when people running for office talk about nothing but their military service. I equate it to people who talk about nothing but religion (and yes, I am a religious person).

I’m not familiar with LTC Duckworth’s campaign. I don’t know if she talks about issues or not. I didn’t even know she was a LTC. I did know her, though, back in 2004, when she was CPT Duckworth and I was in the same unit as her. I was never impressed by her, her leadership, her managerial skills, and from what I heard before they got shot down, she wasn’t that great of a pilot, either (I never flew with her).

So generally speaking, when I see a candidate who talks about one issue only, and it’s not related to any of the major issues facing the country, I get suspicious. It makes me think of John Kerry and Max Cleland, both of whose military accomplishments were not nearly as impressive as they led people to believe.

Obviously LTC Duckworth lost both of her legs and nearly lost her right hand as well, and I can personally verify that she lost them to an RPG that went through her cockpit. But being a veteran doesn’t automatically make you a good leader or good representative. For proof of that, look at Jimmy Carter. If she is, in fact, talking about nothing but Iraq, then I agree with Joe Walsh. If she is spending more time addressing issues, though, then Joe Walsh is most certainly a douchebag.

I have never met LTC Duckworth. As a veteran, I believe it is important that soldiers talk about their experiences if they choose to. To insult her service to our country, is sad to say the least. Kind of shows what type of person he is.

I know a little about what happened to LTC Duckworth. She was a Cpt at the time of the incident. One of my sons was in another blackhawk in the formation, when she was shot down. He carried her from her blackhawk to the one he was a door gunner on. She went through a lot to get to where she is today. My hat is off to her for her courage. The soldiers involved usually get together on the anniversary date to see each other.

My God bless our troops and veterans.

I concur with the writer of this article. I was one of the first to hear about the shoot down on the week of Thanksgiving working at Corps HQ and having my guts tore out as another one of our (the US) aviators was shotdown, a “fallen angel”. I was working the desk, current operations for Corps Air Operations. Tammy fought great trama, the difference between today’s military and yesterday’s is we are taught to talk about it. Sorry that the cowardous Mr. Douchbag Walsh doesn’t have a distinguished or honorable military record, his choice, his loss. Tammy has overcome obsticles and continued her military career, being promoted twice since her shoot down and loss of her legs and damage to her right arm. She is a strong individual and leads by example. Joe Walsh should crawl back under the rock from which he came and never be heard from again. God speed to our troops and veterans.
