9 Years and Billions of Dollars…

Updated: August 30, 2013

Editor’s note: I have received numerous requests over the past year to post “Warrior Poetry.” I have toiled with this decision but have decided that I will let you, the readers, decide if we continue to do so or not.  I ask that you leave a comment as to your thoughts on the subject.  Thanks.  -RU Rob

9 Years and Billions of Dollars Won’t Make Them A Modern Society

Why the fuck am I here?

Searing sunlight scorches my face.

The sweat trickles down my brow.

I wipe it away with a gloved hand.

A moment of respite.

Although it will return in seconds.

Stinging and burning my eyes.

Why the fuck am I here?

I see a blood stained sidewalk.

A woman, of 30 something years, shot.

Once in the back of the head.

Clawing at the door to her parents house.

They ignored her panicked screams.

No one is arrested.

Why the fuck am I here?

Four hours later, the sweat is still there.

“We can’t get involved, it’s their country now.”

“They won’t arrest him, it was an honor killing.”

It was an honor killing. “Honor.”

I don’t see the goddamned honor In shooting your sister in the back of her fucking skull.

Why the fuck am I here?

I am the mother, friend, and Aunt to several veterans. This is an eloquent poem, worthy of reading. Good enough to publish. They are a soldiers’ words. They should be heard above the babel of self-serving politicians. Above the whine of privileged youth. Above all the complaints of a lazy populace. This is the voice and reality off experience. Thank you for printing.

Please continue to post the true feelings shown in this poem. I think you could fill an entire volume. I’d buy a couple of copies.

Yeah keep posting this, until those fujtards in DC stop sending the best of our younger generation to cover the checks that those fat old men wrote.

Keep them coming, poetry might just be the mutual language needed to bridge the gap between the veteran and the civilian.

Keep them coming. The words are important for any ignorant American to read, but the catharsis perhaps brought to the writer is most important.

Try to space them out, or put together a book.
That is almost a modern Kipling.

I recall an old saying… When legend becomes fact, print the legend.

Warriors lose their freedom of speech in securing that right for others. I say let the public read and get a sense of what we think and feel. WE too have freedom of speech. Let us express it.

Please, this is excellent, post more. Kipling wishes he was that good.

I think if he were alive, Kipling would have written something very similar. However he would have spelt it “honour”.

I’m not much for poetry, but if more poems were like this one, I could change my mind.
